I caught up with Derek from HeidelBÄR Games to play Hungry Monkey in the closing few hours of GenCon 2022 and got a demo. **OOPS!!! It appears we got the rules for the ants slightly wrong! From Erik Sunden: One detail, the ant is slightly wrongly explained. If you play an ant on the animal pile and the topmost card is NOT an ant, you must pitch up the entire animal pile (including ant ants in the bottom).
